The Da Vinci of high fashion, the Russian John Galliano – this is how boldly and vividly the press describes the designer behind the “glass masterpieces”.
In the 1920s, designers borrowed the techniques of weaving beaded dresses as a remembrance of the robes worn by the priestesses of ancient Egypt.
Beads of wood and various minerals gave way to bugle beads and seed beads, the weaves gained their chic from Japanese beadwork techniques, and the fashionable “tank-top” cut was simple both to make and to wear.
Since then, embroidery has filled the world of evening fashion, and the art of bead weaving all but died out, but...
In 1997, designer Evgeny Trefilov (VOLIFERT) invented the “glass dress”, devising his own technique of linear modular bead weaving that gives a perfect fit on any figure.
The dress received a special prize “for the best handwork” at the All-Russian fashion designers’ competition “Dress of the Year” and made a striking appearance on the runway of the High Fashion Week in Moscow in 1998.
Invented back then, the little glass dress became a hit 20 years later.
Replacing seed beads with larger beads, and enlarging and spacing out the elements, gave the pieces elasticity and multiplied their shimmering sparkle many times over.
A precise mathematical calculation of how the weight is distributed over specific points of the body ensured ease of wear and extraordinary comfort.
The variations of color combinations in the weaves are endless, like the patterns of a kaleidoscope.
To bring the project to life, the glass clothing and accessories brand “VOLIFERT” was registered in July 2020, ready to reveal this innovative invention to the world.
Every year, the creations of the VOLIFERT brand light up the red carpets of the Cannes International Film Festival, the Moscow International Film Festival and Kinotavr.

The whole world follows the achievements of Russian programmers, chemists and physicists. The time has come for a new kind of hero – a mathematician from the world of fashion and beauty who has derived the formula for a truly perfect dress.
